JERUSALEM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION "JEDC" Improving Individuals & Family Lives with Knowledge and Understanding! JEDC was organized by Dr. Eugene M. Mitchell, JEDC President, in 1999. Since January 2006, following Hurricane Katrina, the parent organization JEDC, was reorganized to establish various divisions to assist with the rebuilding of New Orleans and its surrounding parishes. The Housing Division (HD), since February 2006, has been sponsoring and coordinating Quarterly Housing and Resource Fairs, Financial Fitness and Foreclosure Prevention Workshops; First Time Home Buyer Counseling, Case Management Services for Homeless Veterans, Non-Veterans and others in need of housing and employment; New Home Construction and a Bi-Monthly Housing News Publication that includes various resources. Previously during years 2007 - 2014, The Housing Division (HD) provided First Time Home Buyer Education Training Classes. The Housing Division actively serves on the Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance (GNOHA) Policy Committee and GNOHA’s Own the Crescent Home Ownership Developers Program; NOMAR’s Affordable Housing Committee, LA Housing Alliance, St. Roch’s Community Association, and is a member of Unity, United Way Care, and LA COR. The Hope 4 U Division is busy providing family and individual crisis intervention for drugs, alcohol, and other addictive disorders. The Hope 4 U Division has weekly meetings given by MSW and certified counselors. The Women’s Division provides programs for abused women. In addition, the Women’s Division also provides workshops, health fairs, and women’s retreats to assist women and families. The Youth Division provides Saturday youth recreational programs and youth developmental seminars. The Dream Teens was organized to assist teens ages 13-19. The Education Division provides scholarships, educational mentoring, and other after school test preparation programs and college preparation programs. The Food and Clothing Division is actively providing clothing and food distribution throughout the year to those in need.
